Hi Music Parents! I have great news. We have finally picked a field show for next year. After a lot of voting (and whining
, we have chosen to do the music from the movie “Moulin Rouge“. This show features “Nature Boy“, “Diamond Are A Girls Best Friend” (Monroe favorite) and “Rhythm of the Night” (Gloria Estefan I believe). Mostly audience-recognizable tunes, very listener friendly. I am in the process of ordering the music so that the kids will have it before they leave for the summer.
Band camp dates… July 30th-August 3rd. One week only for all you Sugarloafers! 8am-2pm. A full itinerary will be sent homw with the kids in a few weeks.
The real reason I am writing … Spring Trip 2008! It may sound early to talk about this but the earlier we start the payment schedule, the better. Next Spring, the concert band and the A-Cappella choir will be taking a tour of Southern California. Dates: April 2 (leaving school at 11:00 pm) to April 5th (Arpil 6th is a day off for the kids!). We will be visiting Disneyland, The Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children, possibly Universal Studios, and the Hollywood Walk of Fame, among other things.
The cost of the trip will be around $570.00 (Disneyland is @$150.00 for a two-day pass) per student and a little more for adults. It will cover all transportation, lodging, amusement park tickets, and meals except for lunches. I am working out a payment schedule with the tour company. The first deposit of $100.00 will be due in May (2007). Monthly payments will be approximately $55 for each month leading up to the trip. (Per person). I will need one chaperone per 10 students (approx 10 chaperones). I hope that some of you will want to come with us on this trip. I will be sending applications home soon with your students. I have also invited the tour group leader to our May 8th meeting to answer any questions you may have about the trip. Thanks!
